On January 22, 2000 Angel Perez (H) and Gustavo Sagredo (AI-FB) met with Carlos Soza in front of Leavey Library at the University of Southern California to give him a brief explanation of what Lambda Theta Phi was all about. At this meeting Carlos Soza received a Lambda Theta Phi informational packet that explained the rich history of Lambda Theta Phi. Carlos Soza then talked to his roommate Roberto Merino and gave him a copy of the informational packet.

The next meeting with the brothers of Lambda Theta Phi occurred at the Spring 2000 State Wide Interest group meeting held at California State University Long Beach. In this meeting Roberto Merino and Carlos Soza met with brothers Sammy Aguilar (AI) and Adrian Romero (AI) where they further explained the ideas of Lambda Theta Phi to the soon to be founding brothers at USC.

After the State Wide Interest group meeting at Cal State Long Beach, Carlos Soza and Roberto Merino had one goal in mind, which was to form a USC Lambda Theta Phi interest group. It was this way that the first USC Lambda Theta Phi interest group was formed, which consisted of Roberto Merino, Robert Vega, Carlos Soza, Xavier Hernandez, and Daniel Cisneros.

The USC interest group continued to meet a minimum of once a week where they discussed the requirements that needed to be completed before the induction process could begin. Through this time the USC interest group met with other brothers from various chapters (AI, AZ, BA) where they learned about the brotherhood that they had only read in the informational packet.

As weeks passed by and the USC interest group got to know each other a lot better the time was getting closer and closer for the process to begin. It was on Thursday March 23, 2000 that the interested group spent the final night before the process began with AI brother Sammy Aguilar going over the History of Lambda Theta Phi. This was just an attempt to get the interest group prepared for the next step in the process.

By the beginning of the Fall 2000 semester, the five founding brothers at USC were ready & determined to make Lambda Theta Phi grow on campus. However, they encountered some problems. They were not recognized as an official organization by the school. It was not until over a year later, in the Fall semester of 2001 that USC officially recognized Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity Inc. as part of the Greek System.
